Helping adults understand childhood, trauma, and the relationships that shape us.
The Protective Shift exists because most adults genuinely want to do right by children. They simply aren't always given the knowledge, language, or support to know how. My work bridges that gap through trauma-informed education, child development, healthy sexual development, prevention, and organizational consulting. Whether I'm working with parents, professionals, or entire systems, my goal is the same: to help people understand behavior more deeply so they can respond in ways that foster safety, connection, and lifelong well-being.

Hi, I'm Angela.
For more than a decade, I've worked alongside children, families, professionals, and organizations navigating some of life's most complex experiences. I've sat with parents welcoming new babies, children healing from trauma, professionals carrying the weight of difficult work, and leaders trying to create systems where people can truly thrive.
Over the years, one truth has continued to stand out:
Most people genuinely want to do the right thing.
They're simply not always given the understanding, language, or support to know how.
That's why I created The Protective Shift.
My work helps people better understand children, trauma, relationships, and human behavior through practical, trauma-informed education. I believe that when we understand why behavior happens, we respond differently. We move away from fear, shame, and punishment, and toward curiosity, connection, and prevention.
While much of my work focuses on protecting children, it has never been only about child safety. It's about building the kinds of relationships, families, organizations, and communities where people feel safe enough to grow.
I teach on topics like child development, healthy sexual development, trauma, prevention, and the ways relationships shape childhood. I also work with organizations that want to build healthier cultures and stronger support for the people they serve. Whatever the topic, my goal isn't to give people more information - it's to help them see children, and themselves, a little differently.
Professionally, I'm a social worker, educator, supervisor, consultant, and lifelong learner. Personally, I'm a mom, an avid reader, a lover of quiet mornings and meaningful conversations, and someone who believes some of the biggest changes begin with the smallest shifts in understanding.
If you've found your way here, I'm glad you did.
I hope you leave feeling a little more informed, a little more confident, and a little more equipped to create relationships that protect, heal, and last.
